Not that anyone at Mt. Sac seems to care about their all-time lists, but the Saugus time from 2010 is incorrect (as are the official results for this regular varsity race #57). Several girls from the previous race arrived just before or after the race winner. The other race girls didn't appear in the #57 race results but their times did! That shifted times about a total of 30 seconds, so Saugus should really be just over 90:10. On that day, Saugus was running without #1 Kaylin Mahoney.

The 2010 team later ran 89:25 at Woodward but missed the opportunity of setting the all-time Mt. Sac record as they ran on the rain course at SS Finals.

That makes sense - I didn't remember Beverly Hills being that fast, and was surprised that no 2012 teams were being included... I'll update that.

GO ran 88:51 last year, and Simi was 88:30 something...

Temperatures make a big difference at Mt. SAC. Last year was really cool, cloudy, and the course was damp (so no dust). This year was more normal and considerably warmer so times were definitely slower.

Finish-line clock is always unofficial. I'd trust the chip timing more than watching when runners pass under the finish-line clock. Either way, 2-3 seconds isn't a huge deal compared to race conditions (as Greg said). To me, the course seemed to run (for the D1/2 sweepstakes races) pretty much the same as usual in "good condition" years.

Having watched more races on Saturday than I should admit, I saw the finish-line clock being adjusted from the previous race to the next race many times. Watching the process, which jumped to zero, then to a teen minute, then by five second jumps, until it finally was left to tick on, made me feel as if the clock adjustment was being made manually and was only close to accurate as opposed to exact to the chip time.

Finally, though, those two-to-three seconds mentioned by Scott (and did not appear to be the case in all races) are minor compared to the differences in conditions over a racing day and from year to year. For instance, at the 2012 invitational the conditions were near perfect (55-60 and overcast for much of Saturday). This year temps during the varsity sweeps races ranged from mid-60s into the low 70s. By mid-afternoon, the temps were in the low 80s and were still around 75 when the last varsity races were run.

One of the reasons some coaches were having their teams run sweeps one year and then standard varsity the next was the schedule. Early morning varsity races with temps in the 60s or lower one year and then sweeps the next when the division's varsity races would otherwise have been in the afternoon. With the new schedule, only D1 teams have that option. D2 teams can choose sweeps or late afternoon when it still can be hot. (Of course, D3-D5 teams could only choose early afternoon or later in the afternoon on Friday (or, if good enough, Saturday sweeps).

Keep in mind that this years times seem to be 2-3 seconds slower due to delayed timing (chip) issues. Too bad that this may be affecting the record books.

Where do those team times stack up historically? It seems the Mt. SAC site no longer has the All-Time Top-10 lists anymore?

EDIT: Nevermind, found a work-around.

Simi Valley ties for #8 All-Time with Saugus 2010, not including multiple efforts from the same teams in the same year. Great Oak is 11 seconds off of the top-10 list.
