Camarillo High did nothing to hurt its state boys’ cross country ranking Saturday at the Mount San Antonio College Invitational in Walnut.

Neither did Simi Valley freshman girls’ runner Sarah Baxter.

Or the La Reina girls’ cross country program.

Ranked No. 4 in the state in Division II, Camarillo was runner-up to No. 2 Loyola in the Division I-II individual sweepstakes race.

Heyden Wooff was 17th for Camarillo with a time of 15 minutes, 13 seconds. Esteban Vega (15:30), Adam Lucero (15:38) and Joel Gonzalez (15:42) were other top Camarillo finishers.

With a remarkable display of pack running — its top five runners were separated by only 38 seconds — Newbury Park finished eighth in Division II. Willson Horne was 58th for Newbury Park in 16:06. For Simi Valley, Michael Vorgitch was 19th in 15:19.

Baxter, rated as the third best Division I girls’ runner, won the individual title in the Division I and II girls’ team sweepstakes.

The Simi Valley freshman continued her sensational season with a time of 16:41, winning by 24 seconds. Madelyn Vorgitch was 30th in 18:19. The Pioneers were fourth in the combined scoring and third in Division I.

Led by Melanie Joerger’s 37th-place time of 18:33, Thousand Oaks was fifth in Division II.

On Friday, La Reina was initially declared the Division IV girls’ team sweepstakes champion. After the results were posted, it was discovered that JSerra’s No. 3 runner was not listed among the finishers. The race was rescored with JSerra placing ahead of La Reina, 80-100.

Alyssa Frank and Jordan Jeworski were 11th and 12th with times of 19:03 and 19:05, respectively, for La Reina. All five of its scorers were either freshmen or sophomores.

Oaks Christian’s Cristina Garcia was fifth in 17:54. Oaks Christian placed 13th.

Sean Upson (15:43) and Nicolas Gervasoni (15:52) were seventh and 13th to lead Royal to second place in its Division II boys’ varsity race on Saturday. Rio Mesa was ninth, led by Geno Arthur’s 10th place in 15:47.

Moorpark was third in its Division II race behind Daniel Bostwick, who was 12th in 15:58.

In another Division II boys’ race, Westlake was third, Thousand Oaks eighth and Ventura 11th.

Leading Westlake were Jonathan Miller (15:19) and Timmy Snyder (15:24), who were sixth and 11th. Sam Worley (15:45) was 28th for Thousand Oaks. Leading Ventura was Easton Tackett (15:26), who was 14th.

In Division I, Alex Martinez was ninth in 16:01 to help Buena finish fourth.

Placing three runners in the top 15, Camarillo won its Division II girls’ race. Raquel Lambdin was sixth in 18:54. Kathleen Dunne (19:09) and Rachel Naumann (19:17) were 10th and 13th. Nicki Ghazarian was fourth in 18:47 to lead Westlake to third in the race.

Newbury Park packed five runners in a 25-second time span and placed second in its Division II girls’ race. Rachel Ranucci was 16th for Newbury Park in 19:43.

Anika Gasner was 18th in 19:59 to lead Rio Mesa to fifth in its Division II girls’ heat.

Royal and Ventura were fifth and 11th, respectively, in their Division II girls’ race. Sophie Mateu (17:47) of Royal and Hannah Kirkegaard (18:21) of Ventura were third and 10th.

Oak Park won a Division III boys’ team race by 50 points. Agoura placed four in the top 20 to capture its Division III girls’ heat.

In Saturday’s Division IV boys’ team sweepstakes, Oaks Christian placed ninth, Nordhoff was 11th and St. Bonaventure 14th.
