67th Mt. SAC Invitational -- 10 teams to watch

By Erik Boal, DyeStatCAL Editor

Agoura boys

One of the top programs in Division III, Agoura is stepping up to compete in the Division I-II team sweepstakes Saturday, just like the Chargers did at the Woodbridge Classic and Clovis Invitational. Michael Powell leads Agoura, which placed third in last year's Division I-II individual sweepstakes.

Arroyo Grande girls

Following a victory in the large school race at the Clovis Invitational and a No. 2 finish in the overall scoring merge behind Great Oak, Arroyo Grande is entered in the Division I-II individual sweepstakes Saturday. Talley Hill has been impressive for the Eagles, who were fourth in last year's individual sweepstakes.

Beaumont boys

The Cougars have some unfinished business to take care of Mt. SAC following a disappointing showing at the San Gabriel Valley 1-on-1 Challenge. Andres Vizcarra helped Beaumont regain its confidence with a victory in the large school race at the Clovis Invitational.

Burroughs boys

One of the most improved groups in the state, the Indians take on the challenge of racing in the Division I-II team sweepstakes. Garrett Boulais leads an impressive pack for Burroughs, which placed third in a Division I varsity race at last year's invitational.

Foothill Tech boys

After breaking into the state rankings for the first time, the first-year program will make its debut in the Division IV sweepstakes Friday. Moses Bojorquez secured the first varsity win for the Dragons at the second Tri-County Athletic Association meet Oct. 16 at Thacher.

Capistrano Valley girls

Following back-to-back victories at the Orange County Championships, the Cougars will take on their toughest challenge since the Woodbridge Classic by racing in the Division I-II team sweepstakes Saturday. Ashley Licata (pictured above) leads the Cougars, who finished 10th in last year's sweepstakes.

Central Valley Christian girls

Despite the Central Section's recent ruling that the Cavaliers must compete in Division IV in the postseason, Central Valley Christian will remain in the Division V sweepstakes Friday. Gabby Satterlee and Shani Slabber lead the Cavaliers, who were second in the state in Division V last season.

Corona del Mar girls

With Campolindo not attending the meet and Palos Verdes not having its top varsity runners compete, the opportunity is there for Corona del Mar to capture the Division III sweepstakes Friday. The group had a 34-second separation among its top five at the Orange County Championships and will need another tight pack in order to succeed at Mt. SAC.

Laguna Beach girls

The Breakers have remained under the radar for most of the season and will continue to do so by competing in a Division IV varsity race Friday instead of the sweepstakes. With Bishop Amat not running its full lineup, the door is open for JSerra to capture the Division IV sweepstakes title.

St. Joseph Notre Dame boys

The defending Division V state champion, the Pilots will rely on sophomore Cooper Teare in their attempt to repeat as sweepstakes winner Friday. Flintridge Prep and St. Joseph have both attended Stanford and Clovis, but this will be the first time the small school powers have gone head to head this year.
